The Almighty Shed

Ok.. this is probably the biggest item on the list to get accomplished. It started out with much debate on how to get the shed moved. I was on holidays for the week and i was really begining to chicken out of the project. You see im probably one of the most lazy people on the earth. So Allison says to me "If you dont get it done this week you wont get another chance to do it this year at all." Now im thinking damn.. i better get it done so i dont have to go another winter with that shed there.

The problem with the shed is it was beside the house, and it has a sloped roof. So all the water runs off the roof and down between the house and the shed. Well now the foundation of the house has cracked because of all the water.

So i went outside on that fine Tuesday afternoon and started digging.. and digging... and digging. I dug a 9x9 hole in the backyard about a foot deep. Then it was too late to go back. I called my dad and he dropped off a trailer full of limestone and i proceeded to wheelbarrow it into the hole and spread it around. I rented a Tamper and pounded down the screenings and with some help from my father-in-law we leveled it and moved the patio slabs to form the foundation.

Now lets fastforward to Saturday. The day was shaping up to be a nice one. Steve, Steve, Scott, Kevin, and Mike showed up to give me a hand. We jacked the shed up and placed metal pipes underneath to roll the shed. We also layed down 2x10's to act as a runway to give the shed something to roll on.

40 minutes later the thing was moved.. leveled and we where half way through a 24 of Molson Canadian.

thanks everyone for the help!

#53 - You belong in the Zoo

So yesterday My wife and I took our kids to the zoo. My sister Jennifer and my nephew Michael came as well. Overall it was the perfect day to go. The weather was nice, the animals where frolicking. My sis was super nice and bought the kids a round on the pony ride each so there are plenty of pictures to come shortly.

Anyway i guess im starting to make some good progress on this list of mine.

Cheers for now!

Arg.. My EYES!!!

Ok so Thursday June the 8th at 9:30am found me downtown Toronto lying on a bed having some dude slice my eyeballs open and shoot laser beams into them. Sounds like something out of a science fiction movie? Nope.. try Lasik MD laser vision correction. The procedure went something like this.

I showed up and they tested my eyes again to make sure they had the prescription down.. then they apply some numbing eye drops. Once the eye drops take affect I lay down on this bed and they tape one eye shut and the other eye open. Just to make sure i dont try and close my eye they also slide in these metal claw like things which hurt like hell. They take this suction ring called a Keratome and put that on the surface of your eye and activate the suction which causes you to go temporarly blind due to the presure it puts on the eye. This device makes the eye rigid so they can cut it.

After that they turn on the blade which makes a buzzing noise and slide it over the eye sending vibrations through the eyeball. Then they peel back the corneal flap and begin lasering the eye. The laser is really loud and reeks like burning hair. The laser stage takes about a min per eye. After that they replace the corneal flap, squeegy the eye and then repeat on the other eye.

Overall the procedure took about 10 min and i could see pretty well right away. 24 hours later i have 20/25 vision (anything worse then 20/40 and you cant legally drive). Over the next few weeks they say my vision should increase to 20/20 or better.

I would totally recommend this procedure to everyone who can benefit from it, or anyone who personally enjoys the smell of burning hair.

#52 - Texas Holdem

So May 27th a bunch of us got together to watch the UFC 60 fight and we decided to kill two birds with one stone and turned it into a poker night as well. After 3 rounds and $15 later I figure i know how to play Texas Holdem no limit poker. What a fun game... sure i suck but i still broke even for the night.. good thing i can pick a winner in a fight match up.

To make sure i knew what i was doing we played some more last night and i actually came out on top. So i think its safe to say i can cross this puppy off the list.

#31 - Suduko

So I finished one of these puzzles. Took me 1 hour and 40 min. Now im straight up addicted.. I have to admit once I talked to a few of my friends about these things there is faster ways of getting it done and I can now generally complete one in under 25 min. Im no genius yet but I can feel my brain growing with every puzzle I complete. Soon I will take over the world!!!!

Oh I usually do the puzzles in the newspaper however if you are interested you can try these.

#82 - Mechassault

Well.. I finished MechAssault 2 Lone wolf for the xbox. I have to say the game was pretty good. I enjoyed it alot. It took just over a month or so to beat it. As you can see I dont have a lot of free time to play but it sure feels good to have finally finished one of the many many games I have shelved. Next I think ill pick another and keep going.

Wow.. where does the time go

So Scott came by and kidnapped my Trees from the backyard.. so things are shaping up back there. Steve, Mandy, Scott, Mike, Allison and myself went to Canada's Wonderland last Saturday and that was a blast. Cold as hell though.. wait.. hell is hot... so cold as November would be more accurate.. I swear it was like 5 degrees and i wouldnt have been surprised to see snow. Despite the weather though we made the best of it and enjoyed our selves.

I have decided to postpone my Lasik eye surgery for 2 weeks to accomodate X-men 3, and Nancy and Dave's wedding. I have a feeling putting eye drops in every 15 min might ruin both events for me. So June 8th is the new date.

Ive also been working on multiple items on my 101 list however nothing has been completed lately. Ill keep you all informed.

cheers!

Just call me Paul

So I'm out to work on #4. First step is to chop down that tree.. its 15' tall and begining to flower so I better kill it while I can. I sort of feel bad killing a perfectly good tree, but I have to move my shed because the roof is sloped towards the house and the runoff is ending up in my basement.

On a lighter note I watched Aeon Flux this week. I was never a fan of the cartoon (although im re-evaluating that) but the movie was not too shabby. Lately I find I can enjoy almost any movie out there... sort of weird.

It also looks like im going to go ahead with the Laser Surgery. The consultation went well and although they try and up sell you to the "Best", and most expensive surgery, I refused to submit to their fear mongering. Let the countdown to May 25th begin.

I also had new windows installed in the bedrooms. I didnt put it on my 101 list because I felt like I would be cheating myself because I had already arranged to have them installed before I created my list. Anyway im quite pleased with the results, they look really good and the sound barrier they create will be wonderfull for those weekend parties on the back deck that would be sure to wake up the kids. In the next few weeks they should be back to install the patio door.

Oh and I also went to a Jack and Jill party on Friday, I dressed up like a ballerina.. i'll post pictures soon.. maybe.

Whoop!
